Just a few simple changes around the home can make a big difference !
Caulk and check the weather stripping around all windows and doors; don't forget your garage door.
Clean or replace your furnace filters monthly.
Install foam gaskets behind all electrical outlets and switches. Outlet safety plugs can further insulate.
Use ceiling fans to reduce heating/cooling costs. (Clockwise in the winter; counter-clockwise in the summer.)
Install a programmable thermostat on heating/cooling system(s).
Wash laundry in cold water and only when you have a full load or use appropriate water level. CLEAN dryer lint filter after every load.
Keep the coils on your refrigerator clean.
Set hot water heater to 120 ° + WRAP it with an insulating blanket.
Check the insulation in your attic and crawlspace.
Turn off the heater on your dishwasher and only run full loads.
Seal around and insulate the access to your attic space.
Switch your most used bulbs to CFL bulbs.
Turn off lights and USE a power strip to turn off appliances & electronics when not in use.
Close the damper on your fireplace when not in use. GLASS doors can also save energy.
By saving water, you are helping reduce energy required by municipal systems to purify & distribute water.
Take short showers & turn off water when brushing teeth or shaving.
Install water efficient shower heads & toilets; repair leaks quickly.
Trash in landfills emits methane—a greenhouse gas. Eventually toxic materials leak into the surrounding soil and water.
Shop w/reusable bags & use durable coffee mugs & water bottles, cloth napkins and rechargeable batteries.
Buy recycled products & products using recycled packaging.
RETHINK if you need it. REDUCE what you use.
REUSE what you can. RECYCLE the rest.
